Frequently asked questions
There are just a few things you’ll need to know before you head to one of our locations. Here you’ll quickly find the answers to some common queries, allowing you to get on and have some fun!
Before Booking
Pre-booking is essential. You can book online or by calling our booking team on 01388 537 387. You can book on the day if there are spaces available, but phone signal and internet are unreliable in our forest locations, so we highly recommend doing this before you travel to avoid disappointment.
Supervision rules and participant restrictions vary depending on the activity you choose and the location.
Our policy strongly recommends pregnant women do not take part on the course. Our activities are robust physical activities which involve a degree of risk. However, we do not want to be discriminatory and ultimately the choice is yours. We are not medical experts and therefore suggest you seek advice from your doctor on the matter. If you decide to proceed, you will need to declare that you are pregnant and sign a disclaimer stating that: “I have made Weardale Adventures aware that I am pregnant and as a result Weardale Adventures has recommended that I do not take part on the course. However, I have decided to take part on the course in the full knowledge that this may incur risks to my unborn child”.
We have a dedicated events team who are here to help with larger groups such as school trips or company team building. Please visit our Groups page to find out more and book.
We welcome everyone. However, whilst our activities are designed to be accessible to most people, they do offer a degree of physical and mental challenge. For some, this may mean that additional equipment, adjustments to our training, and/or levels of supervision will be required for safe participation. For others, the risks of injury may still be too great despite taking such additional measures, preventing their use of the course. Call our booking team on 01388 537 387 to discuss requirements before booking your adventure so we can ensure you will be safe and have the best experience possible. It may be useful to book a quieter time of the day to ensure you are not put under unnecessary pressure by other participants on the day. We can help with all this.
Before YOUR ACTIVITY
Our activities are robust and physically demanding, so please ensure you have had enough food and drink to fuel your adventure.
You will only have to wear a helmet depending on the activity you are undertaking. Weardale Adventures has consulted widely whilst risk assessing the benefits or disadvantages of participants wearing helmets on our high ropes experiences. We have concluded that the disadvantages of participants wearing helmets outweigh the minimal benefits, and the Health and Safety authorities have agreed with our approach.
We design are activities to be as accessible as possible. Our high ropes courses require a degree of physical fitness but if you can climb up a rope ladder you will be fine. Our crate building require you to stand for an hour on a moving platform and require similar energy as riding a bicycle.
Our staff at Weardale Adventures are awesome, but not medically qualified, therefore cannot assess the capacity of participants to undertake a course. It remains your responsibility to undertake such an assessment prior to use of the course. We advise you to visit the course prior to booking to undertake your own risk assessment.
Our activities can be excellent in wet weather conditions. Some courses are substantially sheltered from rain and wind by the trees themselves so as long as you’re appropriately dressed for the weather you should still have great memories of your experience. Most activities remain open in all weathers, except thick ice, thunderstorms and gales. Rain makes the course muddier than usual – which can add to the fun, but you might want dry clothes to change into for the journey home.
If we have to close any of our activities for unsafe weather conditions, we will offer you a refund, credit note or reschedule your booking. If unsafe weather is forecasted we will aim to make the decision as early as possible, and will do our best to contact you to try and save you a wasted journey.
Please allow plenty of time to park your car and use the toilets and fill in paperwork if you have not prefilled in before arrival. You should aim to be at your chosen venue 15 minutes before your booked time.
Please do! You’re going to want to capture these moments to share! In order to keep your gadgets and others safe we do ask that all phones and cameras are attached to the participant.
Yes, absolutely!
